Undertrial's death raises questions

Last Updated 15 September 2011, 18:59 IST

The Nigerian, Okay Emmanuel Chira, in his early 20s, was pursuing a bachelor’s degree in computer science at a college in Koramangala. Chira had apparently complained of severe chest pain and fell unconscious. He was rushed to Nimhans, where he breathed his last.

Chira was lodged in jail on charges of pursuing higher studies based on some fake education certificates.

While autopsy is a must for undertrials who die inside the jail, family members’ consent is required for it. Since Chira’s family members are in Nigeria, authorities have touched base with the Nigerian Embassy to either call his family members or get a written consent to proceed in the case.
