Taking first strike, after the match was reduced to 12-over -a-side affair due to overnight rains, SBMJC batted aggressively to unsettle Baldwin bowlers, and raced to 179 for five in their quota of overs. Baldwin could muster only  97 for 7 seven in 12 overs.

After opener Shashindra’s departure in the third over with 22 on board, Karun Nair walked in, and that sparked a period of misery for Baldwins. The most brutal assault of the match came in the eighth over when Karun struck Baldwin’s Isaac for five sixes, with the first one coming off a no-ball.

The over fetched SBMJC 35 runs as the morale of the Baldwin bowling attack was torn to shreds. Karun was out on 48 going for a big heave off Jayanth and was caught at long on by Chinmoy. Kazi (34) then took charge cracking some well-timed boundaries, also clearing the ropes on a couple of occasions. The left-hander preferred the on-side and played the spinners with elan driving, pulling and cutting them with ease.

Southpaw Liyan Khan, who came into bat after the fall of Karun, joined the party hitting two sixes over long on. When the devastation finally ended, Jain had 179 on board for the loss of six wickets.

Chasing an improbable target, Baldwins were never really in the chase. Clinton topscored for them with 36 as wickets fell at regular intervals with batsmen after batsmen trying to up the ante. Jain bowlers Bhavesh, Kazi, Zahoor all stuck to a good line making it difficult for the batsmen.
