Kudroli temple to honour widows during Dasara, says Poojary

Addressing a press meet here on Tuesday, he said about 1,500 women who have lost their spouses, would be given sarees and other materials after holding a special chandika homa at the temple. They will also be asked to pull the silver chariot with the God, around the temple.

“Women who have lost their husbands are considered as untouchables in the society even to this day. Widows are ill treated in the society. Neither mutt heads, nor seers or any other religious leaders have taken up any steps to fight against such a heinous crime against women who are ill treated in the society. After losing husband, she is forced to remove ‘karimani,’ bangles which she was wearing when her husband was alive. The society should wake up and fight against such ill treatment meted out to the women,” Poojary added. The mutt heads, politicians should bring about social changes in the society by removing such disparity.

He said “if women are not honoured, then the society can not survive.

” To a query on promoting marriage of women who have lost their husbands, he said “if anyone comes forward to marry a widow, then Kudroli kshethra will arrange for the marriage free of cost.”
