Spl educators threaten to stage stir

Speaking to presspersons here on Tuesday, he said special school teachers are paid a meagre salary of Rs 2,800. Maharashtra, Goa, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Delhi states are providing 100 per cent grant for these special schools.

He urged the government to bring all the special schools under the umbrella of education department.

Deprived of facilities
Shetty said special school teachers, assistant teachers and assistants are deprived of any facilities from the government and job security.

Karanataka state has 130 to 150 such educational institutions. Karnataka state has 9,40,000 differently abled children.

Of which, 3,67,000 are below 18 years old. It is our duty to provide education and training to all the children below 18 years old.

He said “Maharashtra state has 900 special schools. They are given a grant of Rs 181 crore by the government. However, in Karnataka, the total grant for such schools are only Rs 1 crore.”

Circular
Women and Child Welfare department Secretaru Dr D S Ashwath had recently had issued a circular which states that only 15 special schools in the State will get grant from the government.

He urged the government to include all the special schools under Zilla Panchayat budget and provide the grant.
