This year also, Sargam provided its participants fun, fame, glitz and glamour through events like ‘Jukebox’, fashion show and ‘DJ Nite’ and unleashed the retro fever in everyone.

The mega fest, which witnessed the participation of nearly 20,000 students from 157 colleges in the City and other parts of the State, saw an array of events being performed on the theme ‘Retro’. The events took place in more than five venues simultaneously.

Pranob Mohanty, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime), and actress Sonu Gowda were the special guests on the first day which saw colourful events like folk dance, monoact, street dance, mime, wax art and filmi group dance.

Events like greeting-card making, face painting and creative writing had many takers and helped the students put forth their skills and talents. Students, who took part in the debate competition, presented their views on ‘Should kids below the age of 13 be allowed to join Facebook?”. Students talked about the advantages of social networking sites, the dangers associated with them in the form of identity theft and more.

The ‘Best Manager’ helped participants inculcate qualities of able leadership, team work and to understand their social responsibilities.  The endless creativity and imagination of the students took a variety of shapes through clay modelling.

The group filmi dance saw students shaking their legs to the tunes of the evergreen songs of yesteryears like Piya Tu Ab To Aaja and Aao Huzoor Tumko and Kannada and Tamil hits. Colleges like Christ Junior College, KV DRDO and New Horizon PUC enthralled the crowd with their excellent choreography.

It was New Horizon PU College who bagged the first prize. Christ Junior College and Christ Evening College secured the second and third prize respectively.

Choreographer Balaram and actress Shwetha were the judges for the event. The second day unfolded with breath-taking performances in fusion dance, street play and battle of the bands. The New Horizon Engineering College staged a play on domestic violence and bagged the first prize.

The Christ Junior College secured the second place. A spectacular fashion show, mind-blowing Western and Indian dance performances and the ‘DJ Nite’ left the audience speechless.

“Sargam 2011 has raised the standard of performance. We enjoyed organising it and believe the students enjoyed performing and was a learning experience for them. We have learnt quite a bit from it. As we bid goodbye to Sargam 2011, I assure the student community that Sargam 2012 will be much more bigger and promising,” said Jawahar Mirazkar, Principal, New Horizon College. New Horizon College of Engineering was declared the overall champions of ‘Sargam 2011’.
