Maya carves out three new districts

The three new districts—Bheem Nagar, Panchsheel Nagar and Prabuddh Nagar—were carved out of the existing Ghaziabad, Muzaffarnagar and Moradabad.

Announcing her decision at a series of functions held at the headquarters of the newly carved districts, Mayawati said she favours smaller states and smaller districts as they are easy to manage. She hoped that the new districts will make speedy progress.

Mayawati’s decision is being described as an attempt to woo the electorate in the western region of the state, where the Rashtriya Lok Dal is a major force. The people of the area have been demanding the creation of separate districts since long. However, the opposition  termed it an “electoral gimmick.”
