RTPS coal stock to last for three days

Shortage of coal due to the Telangana stir has already compelled shutting down three power generating units.

While the supply from Singareni has completely stopped, few rakes of coal from Talcher in Odisha and West Coal Mines reached RTPS on Wednesday night.

 It is said that the government has purchased coal from abroad and arrangements are being made to bring it through Chennai port.

However, RTPS sources deny such a purchase. The rest of the five units are now generating 800 MW per day.

“Coal shortage is likely to be addressed in about three days. The available stock is being utilised efficiently” RTPS Executive Director Bhaskar said.
