Sri Krishna Maasotsava kicks off

The sanctum sanctorum was decorated with flowers and the presiding deity Lord Balakrishna was offered ‘Laksharchane’ with Tulsi and ‘Parijatha’ flowers in the morning by Putthige Seer Sri Sugunendrathirtha Sripada. The idol of the deity was adorned with diamond armour and ornaments. At 9, ‘Arghyaparadhan’ (offering of milk and water to mark and celebrate the birth of Lord Sri Krishna) was arranged in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple.

Speaking at the inauguration of the month-long celebration of the most significant event of the temple town, the Putthige seer said that Janmastami would be celebrated twice at the temple this year, on different dates according to lunar and solar calendars. However, the festival Janmastami would be celebrated on September 11 and 12 with several events to be held on ‘Sri Krishna Leelotsav’ falling on September 12, he said. As part of the festival, ‘Sri Krishna Leelostav Shobhayatra’ would be held on Friday at the Car Street in the evening.

The festival was inaugurated by Alva’s Education Trust Founder President Dr Mohan Alva. Renowned astrologer S K Jain presided.

Shiroor mutt Pontiff Laxmivaratheertha Sripada, Bhimanakatte Munivrinda Samsthana Seer Raghumanyatheertha Sripada, Ambalapadi Janardhana Mahakali Temple Dharmadharshi Dr Vijaya Ballal and others were present.
