The mango traders in Srinivaspur are having bitter experience since the market is shifted to the Agriculture Produces Marketing Committee (APMC) yard which sans basic facilities.

Lack of amenities including toilet, drinking water, electricity and drainage has caused inconvenience to the traders as well as buyers. The market will witness brisk business for the next three months, till the mango season is over and the yard will be abuzz with farmers, labourers and traders.

Nearly 3,000 workers are engaged in loading and unloading the trucks that transport mangoes from out other places every day. Majority of them are women, who have been toiling hard here and absence of toilet and drinking water has added to their woes.

The authorities have failed to keep their promise that they would provide infrastructure and other facilities. A stretch between Chintamani Road and the yard is full of potholes and it is difficult to use this road in the night due to absence of the street lights.

The situation turns worse if it rains heavily as the rainwater mixed with sewage gushes into market premises because there is no drainage, the traders complain.

The Committee is committed to provide facilities, said the APMC member Chandra Reddy. He assured that the basic facilities will be provided before the mango season is over and requested the traders to co-operate till then.

However, the residents have heaved a sigh of relief since the mango business has been moved from a private premises to the APMC yard.
