They filed for divorce on Wednesday. After months of speculation in the media about their “stormy” relationship, both have now decided to end their 32-month-old marriage. The two tied the knot in December 2006.

Since the divorce is sought by both parties, the process is expected to be smooth and brief.

According to media reports, their relationship hit rockbottom after Selvaraghavan started going around with Andrea Jeremiah, who is playing a lead role in his yet to be released “Aayirathil Oruvan”. It was even reported in a section of media that Sonia had once visited her husband on the sets of his movie and slapped Andrea for trying to take away her husband.

It was Selvaraghavan who introduced Sonia to films with “Kadhal Konden” and later repeated her in two other movies.

Apparently, superstar Rajnikant tried to mediate to save their marriage, but could not succeed.

Selvaraghavan is the elder brother of Tamil actor Dhanush, son-in-law of Tamil superstar Rajnikanth. Selvaraghavan directed “Kadhal Kondein” in 2003, the film in which Dhanush made his entry into the film word. He also directed “7G Rainbow Colony” and “Pudhupettai” in which his wife acted. Sonia, a former TV anchor, has acted in over a dozen films in Tamil and Telugu.
