Last Updated 10 October 2011, 19:01 IST

According to the Kodigehalli police, Vani (30) and Rajesh (36) claimed themselves to be Ayurvedic practitioners and were running a clinic under the name Om Sri Guru Raghavendra Ayurvedic Care Centre at Canara Bank Layout.

They hailed from Edamangala village, Sullia taluk, Dakshina Kannada district. The couple befriended their neighbours - Srikanth and Roopa and their son Sanoop. They convinced their neighbours to lend them jewellery as they had to attend a wedding, but after collecting jewellery absconded with two-year-old Sanoop on September 29.

Someone in Udupi noticed the couple and informed the local police who in turn alerted Kodigehalli police. Both were arrested at Udupi with the help of local police. The boy has been rescued and jewellery recovered from the duo.

Hunt on for killer guard

Seshadripuram police have intensified the search for Ashraf, the security guard at Polo Garden, Kumara Park, who allegedly stabbed Anasuya, an SBM head cashier to death in a lift recently.

“We have constituted a special team to arrest the suspect. There is some information about his whereabouts. The police team would leave for Assam, the native state of the suspect, in a couple of days,” Seshadripuram sub-division ACP Omkaraiah said. Four persons from Assam have been questioned to know more about Ashraf, he added.

Ashraf was working with a security agency on Malleswaram 11th Cross. He met the office-bearers of the Apartment Residents’ Welfare Association and told them that the association would have to pay the agency if he was hired through it. He offered that he be appointed directly and the Association did not bother to conduct a background check on him, sources in the police department said.

A request was given in writing to the Association asking it to furnish details of the security guard. However, the formality was not complied with. The office-bearers even did not act when Anasuya lodged a complaint about his misbehaviour, the sources stated.
A few other residents had also complained about his intentions. The police  may also question Anasuya’s husband, Krishnan.
