The officer was speaking at a progress review meeting of the Zilla Panchayat in the city on Monday.

‘Begin work’

He directed the officers to start work under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), even it if it was only one work in a village and only five workers were available.

Srinivasachari said grants were not forthcoming to the State and the labourers were not getting work due to the negligence on the part of the officials. He expressed dissatisfaction over the fact that only nine GPs had begun MGNREGS work, half way through the financial year.

An amount of Rs two crore was released a fortnight ago for drought relief works and the government would release another Rs 1.5 crore soon, he said. The Rs 70 lakh with the Deputy Commissioner could also be used, Srinivasachari said.

He called upon the tahsildars, the ZP executive engineer and the TP executive officers to visit the villages and oversee supply of water through tankers.

Srinivasachari took the officials to task for their negligence and incompetence in constructing houses under the housing project. He asked them to submit proposals to the Rajiv Gandhi Housing Corporation.

He asked Sridhar, officer of the district co-operative bank, to distribute loans to more members. The officer took the Srinivaspur taluk panchayat executive officer Krishna Reddy to task for alleging that the MLA was interfering in the implementation of works.

The officer also riled officials who were not discharging their duties from their headquarters.

Deputy Commissioner Manoj Kumar Meena, ZP CEO N Shantappa and others were present on the occasion.
