KAS exam pattern changed; KPSC recruitment for various posts

He was speaking at the inauguration of training courses for competitive examinations organised by National Service Scheme Unit of University of Mysore at Basudev Somani College here on Wednesday.

Parshwanath disclosed that Karnataka Administrative Services (KAS) would have new system now. The preliminary exam would have questions on 38 topics. Elective topics have been left out. The system followed in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh would be implemented in the state soon, he added.

KPSC conducts exams for vacancies in more than 60 departments of the state. It follows vertical and horizontal reservation process in KPSC selections. SC, ST, OBC are included in the vertical section, ex-servicemen, women, Kannada medium, rural, specially-abled are under the horizontal category. Central government’s staff selection commission conducts the process for clerical jobs.

Mentioning that graduates can appear for KPSC exams, he said exam procedures depend on the posts.

For a few posts written exam is considered, while for others include personal interview, he added.

Basudev Somani College principal S R Ramesh said, “Even though many students are pursuing their degree, a majority of them have limited knowledge about competitive exams. Students are losing opportunities due to lack of awareness.”

Training is essential to succeed in banking, police, KAS, IAS and SSC exams.

Compared to annual exams, competitive tests need more preparation because it tests the student’s mental strength, general knowledge, grasping power and language proficiency.

Programme coordinators T Ramesh, Sudhakar Hosalli, Institute of Education Trust president H N Nagaraj and University of Mysore NSS programme coordinator M Rudraiah were present.
