Kheny blamed for murder of activist

The protesters alleged that NICE management had issued life threats to Siddalinga Prabhu several times. NICE chief Kheny was planning to construct a film city on the land owned by a relative of Prabhu and the latter opposed it. Hence, Prabhu was murdered on Monday. The perpetrators of the crime should be arrested immediately, they demanded.

Former prime minister H D Deve Gowda visited the spot and expressed solidarity with the protesters.

“There is a law and order problem in the State. There is no security to the lives of the farmers. The State government will be held responsible for any untoward incident in future. Police are responsible for Prabhu’s death,” he said.

Rajya Raitha Sangha working president Kodihalli Chandrashekhar demanded a CBI probe into Prabhu’s murder  and urged the Government to ensure proper protection to the people fighting against NICE. Central Range IGP Malini Krishnamurthy rushed to the spot and pacified the protesters.

She promised to arrest the suspects within a week and promised measures to ensure security for farmers. Vehicular movement was adversely affected as the protesters blocked the Mysore Road for more than two hours.

Unidentified persons had hacked Prabhu to death on Monday in Talaghattapura police limits. A resident of Sompur, Prabhu had led a series of protests by farmers against NICE. The victim’s relative Basappa, in a complaint, alleged NICE chief Ashok Kheny and BJP leader Rudresh were behind the murder.

Bike rider killed

A two-wheeler rider was killed when a truck knocked him down in Yeshwanthpur traffic police limits on Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Hariprasad, 25, a resident of Nelamangala. He was a financial analyst with Global E Business Operations Private Limited. A speeding truck knocked him down while he was returning to office after visiting his friend at Gorguntepalya. He fell down and came under the wheels of another vehicle coming from behind and was killed, said the police.

Pillion rider dies

A pillion rider was killed on the spot when a KSRTC bus knocked him down in Central traffic police limits on Tuesday night. The dead, identified as Ashok, 25, was a resident of Mysore Road.

According to the police, the accident occurred near Vinayak Theatre on Mysore Road when Ashok and his friend were heading home.

The speeding KSRTC bus knocked down the bike from behind.
Ashok fell down and came under the front wheel of the bus and was killed on the spot. The driver is absconding, said the police.
