Started during the 1970s, the eatery has maintained its reputation of serving the best dosas in town.

Though the entire street is now blooming with small eateries, Hotel Janatha still holds ground because of the quality food it sells.

Currently run by A Ananthaya Bhat, the eatery has been a family business for a long time now.

His son Ram Prasad, who assists him in the business, says that they have always run by one mantra and that is to serve quality food.

This fast food joint has both a self-service counter and a service facility with a small seating capacity.

Come morning and the place is filled with professionals digging into the many South Indian breakfast items, including khara bath, kesari bath, rava idli and others.

“There was a time when we used to serve ‘Mangalore bajjis’ as well but we stopped it as demand for other items increased. As competition grew, we had to cater to the demands of our customers,” says Ram Prasad.

Afternoon makes way for vegetarian meals. Priced at Rs 50, one gets a good portion of rice, sambar, rasam and a special vegetable of the day.

“For those with a smaller appetite, we also have mini meals, priced at just Rs 20,” he adds.  Those with a sweet tooth can also try out an array of Indian sweets displayed at a separate sweet counter.

“We have a lot of demand for son papdi and Mysore pak,” says Ram and adds that tiffin is also available in the evening.

Deepak, a regular to the eatery, says that the place is so popular even today because of its reasonable pricing and quality food.

“This is the only place where I can polish off two dosas with ease. I personally love the rava idli as well out here,” he adds.

Hotel Janatha is located at 12th Cross, Wilson Garden. The eatery is open from 7 am to 8 pm and is closed on Thursdays.
