Identify land for installing Ambedkar bust: DC

Shortage of funds delayed Ambedkar Bhavan at Somwarpet

He was speaking at the vigilance and monitoring committee meet on Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention) Atrocities Act, at DC’s office in Madikeri on Saturday.

Earlier Committee member Muthappa said “bronze bust of Ambedkar is installed at all the district headquarters. Similarly, it should be installed in Madikeri. The work on Ambedkar Bhavan at Somwarpet has not seen any progress. The work should be completed immediately.”

Social Welfare officer Rajesh G Gowda said that owing to paucity of funds, the work on Ambedkar Bhavan is delayed. Efforts will be made mobilise funds to complete the work on the Bhavan.

Subbaiah said that the land for the construction of Ambedkar Bhavan in Virajpet taluk has been identified and the land has been levelled to take up the work. Unfortunately, the work is yet to commence. Reacting to it, Gowda said that the work has been handed over to Nirmithi Kendra.

To which, Deputy Commissioner said that Nirmithi Kendra is not implementing any project properly in the district. It would be better if the work on Ambedkar Bhavan is handed over to others.

Zilla Panchayat CEO N Krishnappa said that the work on Ambedkar Bhavan in Virajpet can be handed over to Karnataka Rural Development Corporation.  On the construction of Valmikhi Bhavana, the DC said that it would be better if the Bhavana comes up in a place where majority of the community members reside.

Rajesh Gowda said that it was decided to construct Valmikhi Bhavan at the cost of Rs one crore in the district headquarters. Now the department is planning to construct the Bhavan at Mullusoge Gram Panchayat limits in Kushalnagar hobli as land was not available in Virajpet taluk. The DC directed the officials to submit a list of tribals in Thermekadu Paisari for title deeds, by October 31.

Housing facilities
Deputy Commissioner directed the Urban Development Project Director to provide housing facilities to the civic workers of CMC and three Town Panchayats in the 22.75 per cent grant.

He directed the officials to prepare a list of civic workers who do not own sites and houses in three town panchayat limits. The DC said that he has sought a detailed report on the death of two tribals after consuming polluted water at Bilugunda tribal haadi in Somwarpet. Once the report is received, decision on payment of compensation will be taken.
