Heavy rain batters B'lore

Last Updated 17 August 2009, 17:57 IST

The areas which suffered heavily were Okalipuram, Nayandahalli, Kadirenahalli, Parvathipura, Uttarahalli, Subramanyapura, Vasantha Vallabhanagar, Devarakere and Ganapathipura.

Parvathipura in V V Puram area bore the maximum brunt. A compound wall, measuring seven feet high collapsed, crushing eight autos and an equal number of two-wheelers parked behind it. However, no one was injured in the incident.

The mishap took place behind KIMS Hospital. There are many workshops on a 20-feet road behind the hospital, which is protected by the wall constructed some 30 years ago. Owners of these workshops had parked the vehicles on the road when the wall collapsed on them.
Traffic was  affected near railway over bridge at Okalipuram due to water logging. Debris had choked the underground drain due to which water had stagnated. For nearly three hours, traffic was affected.

At Mysore Road near Nayandahalli swollen storm water drain flooded the road. It is learnt that excess water from a nearby lake gushed into the secondary storm water drain. As the secondary drain was not well connected to the major storm water drain, water began flowing on the road, which threw the traffic out of gear. The BBMP Commissioner visited the spot and  directed the officials to get the secondary drain connected to the major storm water drain in the next 48 hours.
