Even though she sang only a few lines in the song, Hamsika’s melodious yet assertive voice captured everyone’s attention.  In fact, the singer tells Metrolife that the biggest compliment she received for the song was from Shah Rukh Khan himself.

“He had told me that every time he listens to Chammak Challo, he fast forwards to the female voice first and then listens to the entire song,” says Hamsika, who was in the City recently for a performance.

But Hamsika is not new to the glamour world. Not only has she sung for various movies of other languages, but she had also participated in talent hunt shows like Sa Re Ga Ma Challenge and Antakshari.

She has also sung for ads and serials. However, her claim to fame was the song Chanda Re from Eklavya.
Hamsika says that she will definitely not stop singing for jingles or serials just because of Chammak Challo.

“Each of these tunes has made me who I am today. I have always been passionate about singing and feel people still need to hear the different sides of this Chammak Challo,” she states referring to herself.

She says that being a multilingual singer has helped her a lot in experimenting with different genres of music. It has also given her career an interesting direction.  “But when it comes to singing in different languages, it’s not only important to have a good voice but also get the diction and pronunciation right as it really helps in bringing out the emotions of a song,” she says.

As for the future, Hamsika says that she isn’t one of those who will cash in on the
success of one song by singing a series of songs. “I am getting offers but I only sing songs that I can relate to and the song should suit my range or pitch. So far, I have been lucky to get only those songs which I can relate to and hopefully that will continue,” she signs off.
