The right-hander, however, didn’t repeat the mistake against Railways here on Thursday.

The Kodava boy, who will be celebrating his 26th birthday on Friday, continued the good work that began with a century in the Challenger Series for joint-title winners India Green. On a day when most of his team-mates found the going tough on a turning track, the opener stood apart with an aggressive century.

“That’s the way I play,” noted Uthappa commenting on his approach. “That’s how I have played all through my career and that’s how I will play every time I go out to bat.
Yes, we did lose some momentum in the post-lunch session (when he didn’t return to bat due to cramps) but you can’t expect everybody to be attacking. Each one has his own style of play and strengths,” he explained.

He would rather, Uthappa stressed, look at the positives than missing out on a big century. “Yes, a little bit,” he said when asked if he was disappointed with his dismissal.  “But you can’t keep thinking about it. There were so many positives. It has probably put our team slightly ahead at this stage and I think a total of 350 should be more than adequate to get a favourable result for us.”
