Murali, 22, a resident of Shidlaghatta Road, Vijayapura, was arrested from a farmhouse for murdering Rudresh, police said.

Rudresh, 37, and his wife Renukamma, 32, ran a hotel on Shidlaghatta Road. They had two sons, Manjunath, 12, and Punith, 5. Murali, their neighbour, allegedly had an affair with Renukamma. Rudresh had warned both his wife and Murali, but the two continued their relationship.

Police said Murali often visited Renukamma at the hotel when her husband was away. On Thursday, Renukamma told Murali they can’t meet anymore. It was then that he conspired to murder Rudresh, police said.

Bludgeoned to death

Around 2 am on Friday, Murali attacked Rudresh with an iron rod when he came out to answer the call of nature. He carried a half-dead Rudresh on the latter’s two-wheeler to Goshale Road at Margadarshi Layout and bludgeoned him to death.

He damaged the two-wheeler with a stone to create an impression that Rudresh had died in an accident.

Alerted by passersby, police gathered details about Rudresh. During investigation, they got to know Murali was missing.

Based on a tip-off, police raided a farmhouse on the outskirts of Vijayapura and arrested Murali. They produced him before a court and sent to jail.

Police are yet to confirm the involvement of Renukamma in the murder.
