Bangalore City triumph

Bangalore City, who had all but ensured title for themselves on Monday’s opening day, completed the formalities to emerge champions in the SA Srinivasan memorial under-25 tournament here at Alur grounds on Tuesday.

Resuming at their overnight score of 54 for two, in pursuit of Bangalore City’s mammoth first innings lead of 449 for eight declared, Combined City XI caved in without as much of a fight, their first essay coming to an end at 225 in 70.5 overs. Abdul Majid was the top-scorer with 65 while David Mathias (3/52) was the pick of the bowlers on the day.

With 224 runs in arrears and expectedly forced to follow on, Combined were 64/1 in 10 overs when the match was called off. Bangalore emerged champions on the basis of their massive first innings lead.

Double centurion of the match, Karun Nair, was declaed the best batsman of the tournament while his team-mate Mathias walked away with the best bowler honours.
