Seabird authorities, panel meet to discuss Phase 2

Committee Chairman and Principal Secretary, Revenue, Ashok Kumar Manoli said the authorities of Project Seabird made a presentation of Phase 2, which will take off in 2012.
Coordination between departments of State and Central governments over construction of roads and other development work was discussed at the meeting.

The Phase 2 of the project does not entail land acquisition, as the project expansion comprises internal work like construction of jetties.

In Phase 1 of the project 2,418 acres of private land and 7,700 acres of forest land were acquired for the project. As many as 2,510 families were rehabilitated during the process. The State government had paid a compensation to the tune of Rs 28.32 crore for the land acquired.

The implementation of Phase 1 of the project affected as many as 4,032 families who have been rehabilitated in seven centres in Karwar (Amadalli, Todur, Mudgeri, Chittakula) and Ankola (Harawada, Hattikeri, Belikeri). The rehabilitation process is nearing completion, said Manoli.

Officers of the Ministry of Defence, Defence Estate and Karwar deputy commissioner were present at the meeting.
