Vardhan pips Jones to enter quarterfinals

The Briton could hold his serve only once in the first set, in the fourth game, and Vishnu reeled off the last three games as Jones kept spraying his shots.  

Vardhan next plays compatriot Rupesh Roy, who advanced to the last eight stage after Ronak Manuja retired with a back problem when trailing 6-7 (3-7), 0-2.

In an other second-round match, N Vijay Sundar Prashanth took out the experienced Ashutosh Singh 6-3, 6-4. Prashanth now plays fifth seed Peter Lucassen of Netherlands, who was given a tough fight by Indian Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan before retiring due to cramps while trailing 6-7 (6-8), 4-6, 1-4.

Sixth-seeded Ranjeeth Virali-Murugesan of India dispatched Sudanwa Sitaram 6-1, 6-3 to set up a quarterfinal clash with Young-Jun Kim of South Korea, who overcame American Shane Le Porte 6-7 (5-7),7-5, 6-2. Eighth-seeded Sean Thornley of Britain beat compatriot Tim Bradshaw 6-3, 7-6 (8-6). He will meet third-seeded Chris Eaton, who beat Seong-Yoon Chung of South Korea 6-2, 7-5.
