After the signal stopped functioning six months ago they were not repaired with various agencies claiming that it did not come under their purview.

Passing the buck
The Police Department said that it was the responsibility of the Town Municipal Council to repair, while the TMC authorities said that it was the responsibility of the District administration to set it right.

The Town Municipal Council called a meeting and resolved that signal lights do not come under their purview and the maintenance and repairs of the same should be borne by the district administration or the police department.

Orders from above
However, a meeting of the members of the Town Municipal Council was convened by Union Minister M Veerappa Moily in the office of the Deputy Commissioner.

Moily suggested that the TMC sanction money for the repair of the signal and accordingly Rs 1.13 lakh was given to a private company for repairs.

Although the signal was repaired a month ago, the lights did not work with each agency giving different reasons for non-functioning of the signal. The signals finally started functioning on Friday, much to the relief of road-users.
