He was speaking at the district-level review meeting held at the zilla panchayat auditorium here recently.

The programmes have been formed for the development of minorities. Advising officials to take special interest in the implementation, he said the schemes should reach all the beneficiaries. Expressing his displeasure at the failure of officials to implement the programmes in agriculture and horticulture, he said there should be improvements by the end of next March.

There has been a delay in providing electricity connections to borewells dug under the Ganga Kalyana scheme. This problem has come to light in other districts also. Officials concerned should submit a report about the progress made under the scheme, he said.

Under the self-help scheme, loans should be accessible to the minorities. Banks in the district should join hands to promote the schemes.

District backward classes and minorities welfare department officer Shivalingaiah said the minorities constitute 9.96 per cent of the population in the district. Special invitee Y R Khan, zilla panchayat deputy secretary Guduru Bheemasena, in-charge committee member Pashat Begum, Sanjay Jain, minorities development board district manager Madhurao and district watershed development officer Lakshman Kallenavar were also present.
