'Good to see team firing as a unit'

“It’s good to see the team firing as a unit, and we are happy to take three points from this game. It was a tremendous effort from the team against Mumbai in their backyard, and we will prepare for the Saurashtra match in Bangalore on Nov 29,” Vinay said.

“Manish Pandey got a double hundred, while Amit got a hundred at a very crucial time for us. It’s good to see them getting among runs, and hopefully we can carry on the form as a team,” he added.

Pandey and Verma had added 157 runs in just 178 balls during their seventh-wicket stand on the second day to bolster Karnataka total.

Vinay was elated to see his bowlers rising to the occasion. “It was a tough track to bowl on, but we maintained a tidy line throughout Mumbai innings to keep them under control. It was a very good effort from all bowlers especially Mithun and Binny who got some crucial wickets on day three, that helped us to reduce Mumbai to 354/8. On hindsight, it was also important to win the toss, as we batted well and put up a huge score on the board,” he said.

Master batsman Rahul Dravid, who is in Mumbai for India’s third Test against the West Indies beginning on Tuesday, too came to see the final day’s action, and spent some time with his State-mates.
