Songs of joy and peace

And of course, a time when Christmas carols — songs that reminisce the heavenly music sung by angels announcing the birth of Christ — rent the air. The carols have already started resounding in our own city.

  Metrolife put together some of the popular groups that will perform in the City during this season. The ‘Glorious’ Christmas concert, titled ‘The Baby that Changed Everything’, will be held on December 17 and 18, 6.30 pm at Prin­cess Academy, Palace Grounds. The choir has woven together a tapestry of uplifting songs and will have popular traditional carols and contemporary arrangements. The first half will have some fun-filled songs and the second half will depict the story of Christmas complete with choreography. For details, call 9916211113.

The ‘Festival of Christmas Music’, presented by the Basel Mission Christian Association will be held on November 30, 4 pm at Town Hall. This festival draws over 800 singers who will render classical, traditional and modern carols. The participating choirs are from St John’s High School, Cluny Convent, Baldwin Girls’ High School, St Thomas Public School, St Joseph’s (European) High School, Mount Carmel College, St Joseph’s College of Commerce, St Joseph’s Arts and Science College, Christ University, Seventh Day Adventist Church, Christ College, Baldwin Women’s Methodist College, Jyoti Nivas College, St Andrew’s Church and Vocal Enigma.

Another evening of Christmas music, titled ‘Euphonia’, will be held at the Indiranagar Methodist Church on November 26, 5 pm.

This is a musical evening where eight choirs will perform in their own unique style. There will also be an organ recital by Avinash Grubb and a string quartet. The finale will have the organ, piano and the strings accompanying a 150-voice ensemble singing the Handel’s Messiah ‘Hallelujah’.  

The candle light service of the Indiranagar Methodist Church will be held on December 18, 6 pm. The choir will stage a musical titled ‘Gloria.’

  St Mark’s Cathedral is also hosting the ‘Festival of Peace’ on November 27, 6 pm in the church premises.

The event will feature eight choirs across the City such as St Andrew’s Church Choir, Christ University Choir and  St Joseph’s College of Commerce Choir, to name a few.

The evening will have a mix of Christmas music and traditional carols. For details, call 22214021. The carol service of the St Mark’s Cathedral will be held on December 18, 6 pm in the church premises.

The choir will sing will be singing traditional carols as well Chri­s­tmas songs such as ‘Love Ca­me Down at Christmas’, ‘Glory Hallelujah — He is Born’, ‘A Bach Noel’, ‘Gesu Bambino’ and ‘Festival of Carols’.
