'Need stringent laws regarding surrogate motherhood'

Speaking on the occasion of the 12th Women Convention of the Udupi Division of the Insurance Employees Union here in Brahmagiri on Sunday, she demanded stringent laws in India on this new concept of selling the womb.

Medical researches supplementing the solutions to work out many complicated infertility problems in turn are bane to the women folk. They cause more problems than advantages. The revolutionary research programmes in biotechnology field has retrained the nature, she said.

Women are subjugated to the extent that she is the main suspect for all the atrocities taking place against her, Suma said and added that the idea behind the image of ‘Bharath matha’ is entirely against the reality. Majority of Indian women depict exactly an opposite image to that of Bharath matha portrayed for the masses. She is the victim of poverty, discrimination and violence. Revolutionary changes in the field of technology, shift in the societal norms to suit the current financial global scenario, present political situation and the rising complexities in the human relations have added up to her miseries. There is male dominance in every nook and corner of the society. Education sector and judicial system of the country is also not spared from the evil of discrimination against women. Constitutional remedies are restricted only to the males and holds no concern to women, she explained
