Charan, Spoorthy claim titles

Charan overwhelmed Sunand Vasan of Horizon Club 11-7, 14-12, 6-11, 11-9, 11-4 while Spoorthy came through a tough contest against Ridhi Rohit of HTTA, winning 4-11, 11-8, 11-13, 11-9, 11-9, 12-10.

In the boys’ final, the 16-year-old Charan looked in good touch as he took the first game 11-7. But the second game saw a contest with both players indulging in lengthy rallies that got the crowd excited. Sunand, although trailing, ensured the game went down to the wire but Charan showing steely nerves won it 14-12.

The third game saw Sunand capitalising on a complacent Charan as he first equalised at 4-4 after being 0-4 down, then surged ahead briskly to grab the game 11-6.

Charan got his rhythm back in the fourth and fifth games, clinching the former 11-9 without much difficulty and cruising 11-4 in the fifth. BNM’s Navaneeth AR won the Youth boys’ title, defeating Vedanth M Urs 6-11, 11-5, 10-12, 11-6, 11-9, 11-8. Arpitha BS of JTTA fought hard to beat HTTA’s Riddhi Rohit 14-12, 5-11, 11-8, 11-7, 6-11, 12-10 to be crowned winner in the Youth girls’ section.
