Milk, eggs for underfed children in Deodurga

Deodurga was recently in the news following reports of  thousands of children suffering from severe malnutrition. Patil said milk and eggs will be supplied for two months to start with.

“We will extend the programme to all the taluks of Raichur, Bidar and Yadgir districts, depending on the result of the Deodurga initiative,” the minister said. He said the poor nutritional status of children was also due to consanguineous marriages and child marriages.

Patil said the State government will soon seek more funds from the Centre for the mid-day meal scheme. At present, the State and Centre were spending Rs four a meal, which was inadequate. At least Rs eight was required to provide a wholesome nourishing meal, he added.

Patil said the State government will take steps to fill vacancies in the department.  The Karnataka Public Service Commission has been approached to fill 341 posts of superintendents in the department, he said.
