Submitting a memorandum to the minister on Tuesday, the MPs said being a major producer of onions with 25 lakh production per annum, growers in Karnataka have been facing lot of hardships due to price crash and adverse weather conditions.

To bail them out, the Centre should announce some package to ensure minimum support price under market intervention scheme, they pleaded.

Though the State government has been announcing minimum support price to onion whenever the prices crashed, the Centre should also come to the State's help to ensure this scheme becomes a continuous process, they added. Besides, MPs have also urged the Centre to adopt scientific sustainable export policy to ensure prices do not crash in domestic market.

The delegation comprised MPs Suresh Angadi, Ramesh V Katti, P C Gaddigoudar, Ramesh Jigajinagi, Shivakumar Udasi and Prabhakar B Kore.
