Cashew is cultivated in an area of 66,683 hectares in the State with an annual production of 89,002 tonnes. Cashew apple refers to the swollen peduncle to which the nut is
attached.

According to the document prepared by the Authority cashew apple is used to make fenny, cashew syrup, apple jam, and candy. Nearly four lakh tonns of cashew apple go waste every year.

The draft policy suggests that cashew apple and its products be declared as an agro-based small scale industry. A single window system under the chairmanship of the deputy commissioner of the district be set up for grant of infrastructure facilities for the industry.
The other aspects in the draft include providing capital investment subsidy, training facilities and concession in excise duty for sale of cashew fenny (an alcoholic beverage).
