Nigerian fails dope test

Last Updated 21 August 2009, 18:03 IST

Ogoegbunam tested positive for metenolone, an anabolic agent, after the qualifying rounds of the women’s 400M hurdles, International Association of Athletics Federation’s spokesman Nick Davies said on Friday.

Ogoegbunam reached the semifinals of the event on Wednesday but was disqualified for a trail leg violation.

“She was set to run for Nigeria in the 4x400M relay but has been provisionally suspended. She didn’t request for a ‘B’ sample test,” said Davies.

According to reports from Nigeria, Ogoegbunam had also failed a dope test at the African junior championships last month in Mauritius, where she won gold medals in 100M, 200M and 400 hurdles. Earlier, Morocco’s Jamel Chatbi had withdrawn from the men’s 3000M steeplechase final after he failed a test for clenbuterol.
