Addressing a press meet here on Friday, Mainuddin said that Belliyappa was continuing in the power because of the mistake of Panchayat chief officer. “The criminal case against me is pending in the court. Still Belliyappa had mentioned this to media only with an intention of tarnishing my and member Matheen’s image,” he added.

“I have no personal hatred or anger against Belliyappa. It was because of the corrupt officials that the difference between me and Belliyappa croped up,” he said.

The indifferent attitude shown by Chief Officer Jettappa in a recent meeting, which was organised to chalk out development action plan, had hurt all panchayat members, Mainuddin said adding that the incident has led to tiff between members and the president.
“Belliyappa had misused her power by undertaking development works under the State Finance Commission sanction during the Lok Sabha election based on officials’ suggestion,”

Mainuddin charged.
Further, he said that the Rs one lakh drawn by the then chief officer from the Karada Vijaya Bank in 2000, during M K Poovaiah’s term as the president of the panchayat, was not misused. The money was withdrawn with proper records, he clarified.
Town Panchayat member from JD(S) S H Matheen was present.
