Acting suo motu, the Delhi High Court had on December 2 stayed the bail order passed by the Special CBI court. Even though Chandolia had come out of Tihar jail, he was apprehended once more.

A Bench headed by Justice Altmas Kabir ordered that the direction passed by the HC would remain stayed till another Bench headed by Justice G S Singhvi decided on Chandolia’s petition.

The Bench headed by Justice Singhvi had earlier granted bail to five corporate honchos in the case. As the apex court put on hold the high court order, and restored Chandolia's bail granted by the trial court, the high court deferred its further proceedings, related to Chandolia’s bail petition, till January 5.

Chandolia had termed the HC’s order, staying his bail as “unwarranted and erroneous”.
