The festival will kickstart with a 60-minute English documentary on Tibetans: A Life in Exile by Robb Bradstock. The short film examines the difficulties confronting Tibetans in exile as they struggle to adapt to the increasing intrusion of the modern world. Kundun, directed by Martin Scorsese, is a true story of a man whose struggles finally pay off in leading the nation. Dreaming of Tibet revolves around the resilience of the human spirit. Another moving documentary Oakland Tribune is based on the human rights.
Windhorse takes a dig at the searing political drama that rips the veils off Western idealism about Tibet. In the Lost World of Tibet, Emma Hindley does a 90-minute interview with Dalai Lama on his early life. The interview is peppered with colour archive film from the 1930s, 40s and 50s. And interviews from ordinary Tibetan people who remember life before China sent in troops.
Another interesting film Leaving Fear Behind by Jigme Gyatso captures the spirit of Beijing Olympic Games. It examines this question and a lot more besides. For five months, from October 2007 to March 2008, amateur film-maker Dhondup Wangchen and his monk cameraman, Golok Jigme, secretly filmed in Tibet. They were both arrested at the end of March after the protests erupted, but not before they had managed to smuggle their tapes safely to Switzerland. Follow fifty pilgrims as they travel to the Roof of the World for the spiritual adventure of a life time, guided by the Tibetan master Lama Zopa Rinpoche in Mystic Tibet: An Outer, Inner and Secret Pilgrimage. Tibet’s cry for Freedom explores both past and present in Tibet's long suffering non-violent freedom struggle. Watch Undercover in Tibet as Tibetan protesters take to the streets in the biggest and most bloody challenge to Chinese rule in nearly 20 years.
