Non-teaching staff of DU to stage protest

DUCKU had earlier planned a token protest pressing for the fulfilment of their various demands, including permanent representation of the non-teaching employees in the executive council.

“The VC called DUCKU for a meeting on October 31 and agreed to consider all the demands. Further, the university administration informed about the acceptance of some of key demands. Hence, we called off the strike scheduled for November 1. However, when we asked for the agreement copy, the administration told us to come the next day. But even after a month, the VC could not be contacted,” said Dhanraj Poswal, joint secretary, DUCKU.

According to Poswal, the registrar’s office wrote to DUCKU on Friday to not go ahead with the protest as the days of the agitation will be counted as ‘no work, no pay’ days.  “We replied saying none of the demands, which were agreed on a month ago, was considered. Hence, we have to forcibly go on a protest. Now, there is no possibility of going back on the decision,” he added.

The union has decided to stage a sit-in outside the VC’s office from December 12 from 10 am to 4 pm.
