His closeness to Gowda urged the members of the Varthur faction to call a no-confidence vote, with supposed support from JD(S) leaders like Ramakrishnegowda and Srirama Reddy.<br /><br />The members of the faction as well as of JD(S) attempted to gather the 12 members required to get a two-thirds majority against Chennakeshava. <br /><br />Avoiding challenge<br /><br />The GP president, however, managed to keep seven of his supporters on his side and is said to have even succeeded in getting them to miss the no-confidence vote on Monday.<br /><br />The opposition members, therefore got no more than 11 members of the GP, which upset them greatly. Unfortunately for the office, they vented their anger by destroying the furniture.<br /><br />The rural police had to arrive at the Panchayat office to bring the situation under control.</p>
