Upset, the faction members and their followers attacked the furniture in the Panchayat.
Doddahasala Gram Panchayat has 18 members. Chennakeshava, of Chhatrakodihalli, and also a member of the Varthur faction had been elected president.

Side change

In the last few months, however, he had disconnected from the faction and joined hands with D R Shivakumar Gowda, chairman of the Karnashri Indira Gandhi Trust. His closeness to Gowda urged the members of the Varthur faction to call a no-confidence vote, with supposed support from JD(S) leaders like Ramakrishnegowda and Srirama Reddy.

The members of the faction as well as of JD(S) attempted to gather the 12 members required to get a two-thirds majority against Chennakeshava.

Avoiding challenge

The GP president, however, managed to keep seven of his supporters on his side and is said to have even succeeded in getting them to miss the no-confidence vote on Monday.

The opposition members, therefore got no more than 11 members of the GP, which upset them greatly. Unfortunately for the office, they vented their anger by destroying the furniture.

The rural police had to arrive at the Panchayat office to bring the situation under control.
