Oru Marubhoomi kadha

Fate guides life

It’s the signature make-believe world of writer-director Priyadarshan. An earnest attempt has been made to nudge the viewers into his world of belly-aching comedy. But a true-blue follower of his genre would gleefully agree: a handful of his old creations are in a class of their own.

The story seems to be a recycled version of his yesteryear blockbuster ‘Kilukkam’. The only change seems to be the location. God-fearing Madhavan Nair (Mohanlal), an accountant in the Gulf, has a dependent family and pending property loan back home. But he never lost sleep over all the issues, till he bumps into a beauty — Meenakshi (Lakshmi Rai). As the fantasy works out, their love story takes funny twists and turns.

There is another girl Elian (Bhavana) who Nair wants to help, but the feisty lady becomes an albatross around his neck. As the hero along with his sidekick (Mukesh) and the ‘lady trouble’, undergo life’s travails on the lifeless Arabian desert, the plot acquires a sluggish pace. Then there are elements like the mistaken identity, misjudgement, a slugfest — all again from the familiar Priyan stable.

Those expecting a laugh riot may be let down, but there are many light moments which will keep you smiling.
