'BC devt corporation earmarks Rs 4.32 cr for DK'

Addressing a press meet here,  he said government has given Rs 70 crore for the Corporation. Last year, Dakshina Kannada had received Rs 2 crore.

He said under Ganga Kalyana yojane, 10,100 borewells have been dug so far. Last year, 1,750 borewells have been dug. This year, 2,118 beneficiaries have been identified. Last year, 24 borwells have been dug in Dakshina Kannada district. This year, the target is to dig 87 borewells. There is less demand for borwells in the region.

In this background, it has been decided to provide financial assistance for digging of eight open wells, he added.
 
Rs 28 cr package

Katwe said a package has been created to provide alternative employment for those who have lost jobs due to the ban on arrack in the State.

 A loan of Rs 25,000 to Rs 30,000 at the rate of 4 per cent interest will be given to undertake alternative employment at various stages.

In the repayment of loan, Dakshina Kannada has achieved 84 per cent success. The State average is only 52 per cent.

Artisans are given financial assistance of Rs 5,000 and loan of Rs 10,000. A sum of Rs 2 crore has been earmarked for Dakshina Kannada district.

To create an awareness among people on various facilities for backward community, the Corporation had organised a special programme in Hubli recently. Such programme will be organised at zonal level in the future.

MLA to select

He said earlier Zilla Panchayat CEO was selecting beneficiaries for various facilities of the Corporation. However, from this year onwards, beneficiaries will be selected under the guidance of MLA.

The Corporation will provide education loan to the students for higher education. Under ‘Arivu’ programme, a loan of Rs 40,000 will be given.

There is good response for education loan in the district. Last year, 38 students availed the loan of Rs 9.5 lakh, he added.
