JOIN USFive persons were killed on the spot in an head-on collision between a lorry and a multiutility vehicle (MUV) in the early hours of Sunday on the State Highway near Hungund.
The dead have been identified as Gouravva Ramanna Bhajantri, Lakshmavva Basappa Bhajantri and Yamanur Ramanna Bhajantri from Nidageshi and four-wheeler driver Sharanappa and his
friend Hanmanth from Hirearalahalli village in Kushtagi taluk of Koppal district.
The MUV was on its way to Nidageshi from Bagalkot and the lorry was proceeding towards Mahalingpur from Raichur via Hungund, when the accident occurred place at 3.30 am at Nagur Cross near Hungund, it is said.
The MUV has been reduced to a heap of metall and all its passengers and driver were killed on the spot.
The lorry driver is absconding.
Traffic came to a halt on the Ameengad-Hungund route for a while.
