MAA workshop for teachers

Last Updated 27 December 2011, 11:14 IST

Mangala Alumni Association (MAA), the alumni association of Mangalore University, will organise a two-day workshop on ‘Teacher competency development,’ at University College in Hampankatta on December 29 and 30.

According to a press release, the advances in communication technology and the availability of many resources of information have made teaching a challenging job. A teacher has to not only keep himself abreast with advances in the subject but also update himself with the skills required to face the changing scenario and demands of the students.

The education scenario in the country has changed and many higher education institutions have come up to provide education to the masses. This has increased the demand for good teachers. However, many of the teachers in higher education sector are fresh post graduates who need to be trained to meet the demands of the changing system of education.

The teachers coming under the UGC get an opportunity to attend orientation and refresher courses regularly and it is mandatory also for them. But teachers in most of the private colleges don’t get such an opportunity to update themselves with required skills. Hence, it is an attempt to help the less privileged.

The two-day workshop will be inaugurated by Mangalore University Vice Chancellor Prof T C Shivshankar Murthy while Registrar Prof K Chinnappa Gowda will be the chief guest and MAA Honourary President and Karnataka Bank Non-Executive Chairman Ananthakrishna Bhat will preside.
