Dense fog halts trains

Dense fog gripped the northern region on Tuesday leading to cancellation of more than 30 trains by the Railways.

The departure of eight trains including Orissa Sampark Kranti Express, Chennai Duronto and Jan Sadharan Express was rescheduled, whereas 22 trains ran behind schedule by several hours.

Most of the east-bound trains including Howrah Rajdhani, Bhubaneswar Rajdhani, Darbhanga Swatantra Senani Expres, Utkal Express, Puri Express are running behind schedule.

"Trains were affected due to dense fog in the region. There is heavy backlog, leading to many delays and rescheduling of trains," a Northern Railways spokesperson said.

A helpline number-2374711 has also been made available to provide information about train positions to passengers, official said.
