Gehlot woos youth with quota

A cabinet meeting headed by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot took the decision to this effect on Tuesday to ensure active participation of youth in the political process. Speaking to the media after the meeting, Gehlot said there will be provision for reservation to the youth between 21 to 35 years of age in municipal elections. The new provision will be separate from the reservation quota for women and SC, ST, he added.

In addition, the state cabinet gave nod to two categories for granting 14 per cent reservation for the economically backward upper castes. The first category includes the economically weaker sections which are part of the state and central government’s BPL list. The second category includes the upper caste backward people in the annual income group of Rs. 2.05 lakh.

The state cabinet also discussed and approved amendment in admission and recruitment rules in education institutions to ensure five per cent reservation benefits under special category to five castes including Gurjars.
