Action demanded against repeat offenders

Last Updated 30 December 2011, 14:51 IST

Policemen at the Cottonpet station faced tense moments on Friday as a large group of residents gathered outside the station demanding action against repeat offenders in the area.

The protest sparked off after Syed and Tausheel were assaulted by a gang of four near the Veterinary College on Mysore Road on Thursday night. The two men were accosted by the gang led by juvenile delinquent Chandala and his associate Ravi. The gang stabbed the two men, but fled the spot as soon as the victims cried out for help.

Police are yet to ascertain if the gang members were planning to rob the duo or kill them due to old rivalry.

They were immediately taken to Victoria Hospital for treatment.

Chandala is allegedly involved in many such cases in Cottonpet area. As residents blocked the road and demanded action against Chandala, police had a harrowing time pacifying the agitating crowd.

They expressed their helplessness saying Chandala was a juvenile delinquent, but promised to bring the matter to the notice of the higher-ups and increase patrolling in the area.

The police immediately deployed forces in and around Veterinary College.

The incident adversely affected traffic movement for sometime on Mysore Road. Police summoned a platoon of KSRP, when they feared the situation was going out of control.

Extortionists held

Police arrested four extortionists for threatening owners of clubs and entertainment houses. The arrested are: Ashoka Gowda (25), Venkatesh (23), Devaraj (23) and Anand alias Godambi (24).

They were picked up from Madduramma Grounds under Hanumanthanagar police station limits while gambling
