Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago Kamla Persad Bissessar was accorded a red carpet welcome at her ancestral Bhelpur village in Bihar’s Buxar district on Wednesday.

Kamla’s visit was aimed at tracing her roots where her great grandfather and his family had stayed before shifting to Trinidad, 122 years back.

The prime minister  commissioned her country’s top genealogist Shamshuddin to zero in on the village. After tedious research, Shamshuddin pin-pointed Bhelpur as the village.
Kamla met her forefathers’ descendants with enormous warmth.

Bihar’s Art and Culture Minister Sukhda Pandey received Kamla and her 15-member team, which included her husband. Local villagers gave Kamla a rousing reception and gifts, including sari, bindi, silver items and Buxar’s traditional food.
