Chaluvegowda (48), a farmer from Muddanahalli, was injured in a leopard attack at his farm in Koratikere village in the taluk on Wednesday.
Chaluvegowda was attacked when he was sleeping at his farm after the day’s work. Fortunately, he had covered himself with hay and this prevented him from being mauled.
As he screamed for help, farmers sleeping in the neighbouring farm burnt some hay and scared away the animal.
Chaluvegowda was immediately rushed to a hospital in Holenarasipur. It is learnt that the leopard at Muddanahalli preyed on a stray pup.
Trap placed
Forest and police personnel visited the spot and have placed a cage to trap the big cat.
Farmers said repeated leopard attacks in the village had sent shock waves among them.
Shortage of agricultural labourers had forced them to work overnight, but such incidents severely affected them, they added.
