'Longer bar hours threat to security'

Last Updated 13 January 2012, 19:58 IST

Extending bar and pub timings till 12.30 am will cause security concerns, said Home Minister R Ashoka.

Speaking with mediapersons on the sidelines of police sports meet here on Friday, the minister said many five star hotels in the City have requested to extend the bar and pub timings.

The minister said he has been in regular correspondence with the police officers and only a few agreed to keep the bars and pubs open beyond the current timing. “We are already running on overdrive with the extension of time till 11.30 pm,” he added.

On women serving in pubs and bars, Ashoka said a dress code will be strictly enforced in future. “We have been raiding pubs and bars where the dress code is in question. In future too, these raids will continue,” he said. The Home minister warned that bar and pub licences may even be cancelled if the dress code is not implemented.
