Maya says 'no' to birthday donations

The two-day meeting of the national executive, which concluded here on Thursday, was presided over by Mayawati, and the members of the national executive from all over the country and the national-level office-bearers of the party participated in the meeting, a BSP press release said.

In her address, Mayawati thanked the party members for electing her as the national president of the party for the third time and assured them she would work with dedication to take the BSP movement towards its goal. She exhorted the party workers to ensure that the party did well in the forthcoming Assembly polls in Maharashtra and Haryana.

Apparently keeping in view the Opposition campaign against her for accepting “monetary contributions” on her birthday, Mayawati directed the party to stop the practice from next year. On earlier occasions, Mayawati had strongly defended monetary contributions on her birthday, saying the BSP was the only party in the country that did not receive donations from corporate houses.
