Re-exam put off again

Last Updated 14 January 2012, 18:36 IST

A cloud of uncertainty hangs over the conduct of the re-examination for courses offered by Bangalore University’s (BU) Directorate of Correspondence Courses and Distance Education.

The exams held at fours centres — Bellary, Koppal, Davangere, and Bangalore College & Research Centre — in August/September 2011 were nullified after instances of mass copying.

The university had told the centres it would conduct the re-exam only if they install Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras. The centres, however, refused to do so, citing financial constraints.

The controversy took an ugly turn when Pramod Mutalik, the chief of Sri Rama Sene, assaulted B R Niranjan, Director of Directorate of Correspondence Courses and Distance Education, on December 16, 2011, for his refusal to conduct the re-exam. Recently, the university announced the re-exam would commence on January 16 at a centre in Bangalore only.

However, the university has postponed the re-exam, citing a High Court directive. The dates and venue for the re-exam will be announced shortly.
